Immerse yourself in the Pura Vida lifestyle at a boutique retreat center nestled in the jungles of Montezuma. Montezuma is a charming, bohemian beach town located on the Nicoya Peninusla which has been designated one of the world’s five Blue Zones.
The Pura Vida lifestyle aligns with the practice of yoga. It invites us to release resistance, trust the natural rhythm of life, and move purposefully. Compass Yoga delivers daily yoga and meditation practices based on Pura Vida philosophy, balanced with bucket list adventures and tours, opportunities to explore community and culture, and plenty of space, rest, and personal time.
About the retreat
Throughout this seven day retreat, we’ll explore themes that help reconnect you to your inner power, and spark clarity and purpose. You’ll practice yoga on a sky-high yoga deck overlooking the jungle and ocean, hike to swimming holes, rope swings, and the famous Montezuma waterfalls, experience the magic of snorkeling at Tortuga Island, chill in the saltwater infinity pool, check out local beaches, boat rides, and spend lazy afternoons reading in hammocks.
Onsite meals are nutrient dense and locally grown/sourced when possible, and are prepared by an onsite chefs. All cuisine is 100% gluten and dairy free. Free-range chicken, eggs, and local fish are the only animal proteins served at the venue. Vegan, pescatarian, and vegetarian diets can be accommodated.
Experience connection, relaxation, freedom and FUN at this jungle retreat as we nourish and honor ourselves through movement, breath work, meditation, delicious food, adventure, and play! Leave feeling refreshed, inspired, and part of something bigger than yourself.
This is our second visit to Anamaya, who was named a 2026 Best of the World Wellness Destination by National Geographic. This retreat is perfect for solo travelers, friends, and couples. All levels welcome.

Internationally, you can fly into the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) near San Jose or Liberia (LIR) International Airport.
We suggest taking the domestic Airlines Sansa and Green Airways to/from the domestic terminal at SJO international airport, to the local Cobano Airport.
*If you fly into SJO (our personal preference), the domestic airport for Costa Rica's domestic airlines is located next to the international airport. It's about a 10m walk, or you can take a taxi. When you leave the airport building, take a left, go out to the road, and take another left. It is the big building straight ahead of you.
Keep in mind that you need time to go through customs, security, and immigration to exit the airport. A two-hour window between your International flight arrival at the airport and the local transportation departure time is the minimum we recommend you allow.
Please refer directly to each airline’s website to make your booking by clicking on the links, and also make sure you check their luggage allowance to see if it matches your packing needs.
Cobano airport is a 20-25 minutes drive to the retreat center, and per request we can arrange a taxi to pick you up and bring you. The price of the taxi is $25 + tax (13%) each way. If other guests are coming on the same flight we will group you together and the charge can be split (minimum of $6.25 + tax per person). This can be added to your bill at the venue.
There are other less costly, but significantly more complicated and time consuming ways to get there from SJO and LIR. Please reach out if you are interested learning more about these options.

Tap water in most areas of Costa Rica is safe to drink, but we suggest bringing a water bottle and drinking the filtered water provided by the venue.
-
Yes! WiFi is available in rooms and public areas. Keep in mind we’re in the jungle in a remote and mountainous location, so the service might not be as fast or reliable as you’re probably used to, but it works for basic tasks.
-
Costa Rica uses three prong 110 volt outlets all over the resort, which is the same as the US and Canada.
-
Credit cards are widely accepted in Costa Rica, but not everywhere. Having some cash on hand is a smart move (especially for taxis, tips, and small vendors). We suggest hitting the ATM at the airport for a bit of local currency, and bringing a small stash of USD just in case. Most places do accept USD.
-
At Anamaya you will be able to bill extras to your room and pay via credit card at checkout. Tips for services and venue staff can be added to your bill at checkout.
